A NEW ERA!

A NEW ERA!

Pre-op is scheduled today.  I haven't blogged in a very long time but thought this might be a good time to document my daily activities over the next few weeks, (months?).  My new mantra is taken from David's statement in Psalms "He has armed me with strength for the battle."  Follow with me.

My favourite photo from Newfoundland, at least today's favourite!

The reason this photo is my favourite is that I captured  it while practically lying on the ground.  Our tour guide told us we could get a good picture of signal hill behind the lupins if we would get down low to take the picture.  Well, this 79 year woman did that.  Now, getting down was not too difficult, but the getting up was another story.  I really didn't think I had got the building on signal hill but when I downloaded the photos, there it was.

KATHY'S HAT

In the waters off a Newfoundland shore
There were whales…..two, three, four.

Of the four, one continually led.
Above the surface, he gracefully raised his head.

As we watched, something very unusual was seen.
On the head of the leader was something green.

One by one each of us asked, "What is that!!"

Immediately Kathy cried, "That's my hat!"

A GARDEN ON MY KITCHEN COUNTER

I had difficulty knowing what title this blog should have…SIMPLE MINDS ARE ENTERTAINED WITH SIMPLE THINGS?…..WHEN I SEE THE LITTLE LILY PUSHING UP THE HEAVY SOD????…..A SURPRISE ENCOUNTER????…..WELL, I NEVER!?????…..  Anyway here is my story.  Several days ago I bought a container of tomatoes from Costco.  According to the experts? you should not refrigerate but leave them on the counter in order to keep them tasting like tomatoes.  So for a few days I would occasionally cut one for us to eat.  Then one day when I sliced the tomato I noticed a dark spot in the center of the tomato.  After examining it closer I discovered a seed had sprouted.  The tomato was still very firm.  I have had onions that sprouted and potatoes that sprouted, but never a tomato.  Soooo I began to watch the remaining ones, still in the plastic container.  I noticed a few bulges on the outside of the tomatoes.

Now isn't that interesting!  Will the plants pop right through the skin?  So I continue to watch the still firm tomatoes.    Then yesterday I began to notice spots on the outside that looked like the tomato was getting soft so I decided to cut into the tomato and lo and behold…….I DISCOVER A GARDEN GROWING ON MY KITCHEN COUNTER.  So I have placed the tomatoes in a flower pot, wondering if the plants will continue to grow.  The soil is still too cold so I put them in  the house.  Stay tuned for further updates.

Accidental unusual photos

I have taken pictures of the moon in many phases.  When I saw on the news this morning the crescent moon I decided I needed to get a photo.  Much to my surprise, when I shot the picture, there was an airplane in the picture.  I had not even seen it with the naked eye.

On a recent trip to the cottage our evenings would come to a close around a bonfire.  Much to my surprise one of the pictures illuminates the face of one of our family members.  Kind of a ghostly shot.  Maybe Halloween is just around the corner.

What to do? What to do?

Sometimes it does not pay to make any changes.  Knowing the old vent to the dryer needed to be cleaned and wondering if it was a safe type of vent pipe to use on a dryer (though we had been using it for 12 years with no  fires) I decided we need to invest in a new one.  A trip to Canadian Tire was the order of the day.  We purchased one that could be stretched to 8 feet, which would be adequate for our vent.

With Wayford on one end and me on the other we began to stretch the vent pipe.  It just needed to be a few inches longer so we pull, when, Alas!  the thing ripped apart.  Now what do we do?  Red Green would recommend duct tape.  Soooo duct tape it is.

Well, guess that didn't work, so spend another $15 and get one that appears to be sturdier.

Supposed to be able to stretch it to 8 feet but because of the problems with the other one we only have it to about 7 feet and are afraid to stretch it farther, so you see where it is now.
After cleaning the lint from the old one, which is not the vent of choice.......  Perhaps later we will have the courage to stretch the new one to 8 feet.
